What to do during your holidays?

There is so much to see and do in the area, that it is impossible to list it all!

Water Activities

  • Canoes/kayaks
    • You can hire them in Salles and discover the Leyre that winds its way through a forest of alders and oaks along its 90km course (hence its nickname Little Amazon). Its calm and clear waters will take you up to the Bassin d’Arcachon in a magical place serenaded by dragonflies and melodious sound of birds’ songs
  • Sanguinet Lake
    • With its white sandy beaches accompanied by shallow water offers an abundance of watersport activities such as windsurfing, waterskiing, sailing, pedalos, boat hiring, and also cycling routes, roller bladding, restaurants, bars and picnic tables. It is a great location for a packed fun day
  • Surf
    • Surf the waves in Biscarrosse or Lacanau. Whether you are a beginner, surf pro, young or not so young surfer, the waves await you!
  • Fishing
    • If you are a keen (or even not so keen!) fisherman, the area offers may sites. The Gironde has 2 big rivers, the Garonne and the Dordogne, both full of salmon, sea trout and shads guaranteeing a wonderful catch. There are also many streams, lakes and of course the Atlantic renowned for its surfcasting. If you prefer a boat fishing trip, there are daily departures available from various different locations
  • Aqualand
    • The young and less young could spend a day in the Aqualand Parc near Arcachon – if you like water-giant slides and lots of fun, then this is the place to go – laughs and good time will be guaranteed
  • Diving
    • Come and discover the under water world of the coast and its array of fish and wrecks

Ground Activities

  • Walking & Cycling
    • Routes are on your doorstep, with over 1000km of cycling tracks and lanes to choose from, there are plenty for the fit and active as well as the less energic ones! Whether you are looking for off-track in the middle of the forest or along the coast, you will always find one to suit your needs
  • Tennis
    • Courts available to rent in Salles
  • Horse riding
    • Many riding schools and trails available nearby
  • Golf
    • A game or two of golf and/or mini-golf also available nearby
  • Archery
    • Also available nearby
  • Ice skating
    • Why not have a go and get a bit cooler on the ice ring?!

Thrilling Activities

  • Paragliding
    • If you are looking for a big thrill together with some of the best breathtaking scenery of the coast and pine forest, fly away from the Dune du Pyla
  • Go-karting
    • Cicuit available in Biganos and open all year round
  • Paintballing
    • There are a few places nearby where you will be able to try your shooting skills and have lots of fun

Leisure Activities

  • Ornithological Parc
    • The bird reserve of Le Teich – where nature lovers will be in for a treat, sanctuary and home to an array of birds to include cranes, storks, egrets, wild goose, to name only a few. Pastural walks there are guaranteed
  • Swimming Pool
    • A trip to the swimming pool in Salles offering hamman, Jacuzzi, body massages etc – a great place to wind down.
  • Bowling
    • A game of bowls (or petanque, how, we French like to call it!) before a glass of red wine or an aperitif (again we like to call it “apero”!)
  • Museums
    • Wine museums, historical museums, archaeological museums, arts museums, the list is endless
  • Country Parcs & Visitor Centres
    • Many are offering a wide range of activities for the family and are open all year round
  • Zoo
    • We have 2 big zoos, one in Bordeaux and one in Arcachon
  • Garden centres
    • Nature and flower lovers will be delighted, there are plenty to choose from
  • Shopping
    • I know, you are on holiday and don’t want to go shopping…but why not being tempted, the choice is endless and there is something for everyone! An expensive handbag, a French couture designer dress or shirt, a pair of shoes or simply a great bargain…
  • Thalassotherapie
    • Situated in Arcachon, this is a magical place to spend some time relaxing
  • French Market
    • Held in Salles every Thursday. Here you will find excellent local produce, gift ideas, local produced food and wine and a wonderful atmosphere in a traditional village
  • A Shady Corner
    • You prefer to laze on a beach and read a book? The choice is endless and time is yours – choose amongst the many golden sandy beaches that are on offer and let time spoil you, after all you are on holiday!
  • Lounge on the beach
    • What about a shady corner underneath the pine trees? So why not simply come and relax on a deckchair or hamac that is awaiting for you by your gîte?

All the activities listed above are within easy access and within 1 hour drive from the gîtes.
